Migration of health professionalss in Republic of Moldova
Although the existence and the scope of the emigration of healthcare practitioners from Moldova are well recognized by society and by the authorities, there is currently no official data on its actual volume. Consequently, this process was evaluated based on available information with respect to the general migration of population, particularly to emigrants with secondary and specialized post-secondary education, these categories including people with medical degrees. It was established that most emigrants owning a medical degree are moving to European Union countries, where they pursue the legalization of their right to work according to their professional qualifications. These trends seem to continue to evolve into the future, as the deficit of medical staff in Europe is on the rise. Therefore, in the medium term, the authorities are not likely to reduce the intensity of this phenomenon and will be focusing on their involvement in this process, monitoring emigration flows, and taking advantage of the opportunities offered by emigrating healthcare professionals. |
