With declaring independence in 1991, Republic of Moldova has faced an
additional task of conducting independent foreign policy and creating its own
diplomatic corp. The article presents the groups which formed a core of the
Moldovan national diplomacy and offers a cross-group comparison. The article
addresses the functioning of the Moldovan diplomatic service recruitment system
and advises for its institutionalisation. In addition further recommendations
are formulated, such as creation of the national diplomatic academy under
auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, opening up towards the national
and international public and enhancements of cooperation with the Moldovan
citizens abroad as well as promotion of research in diplomacy. |
