Developing receptive and productive skills in the English classroom is important to achieve lesson aims. Learners of a new language tend to develop their receptive skills first and then gain their productive capabilities. This paper illustrates the way authentic material can be used to develop receptive and productive skills in the classroom. The paper aims to identify one receptive skill and two sub-skills, which could be practised and developed using an authentic text, identify one of the productive skills which could be practised and developed with the same text, and design tasks in relation to the selected text. In this respect, reading and speaking were selected for the development of receptive and productive skills. |
