The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the biggest global crises since World War II. At the level of international security, the pandemic seems to have accelerated trends that were already underway: the rise of nationalism against the background of globalization, deepening inequalities in failed or failing states, increasing authoritarian regimes and the risk of military confrontations. Some authors believe that the international environment will be marked by multipolarity, while others argue that the future belongs to multilateralism, following the new direction of the Biden administration. In this context, the COVID-19 crisis can be used as an opportunity for socio-economic, geopolitical and defense reset, including accelerating digital transformations, managing climate change and new biological threats. |
