Cervical Myofascial Pain and Headache
Cervical Myofascial Pain and Headache are among the most common complaints
encountered in the cervicogenic pathology practice. Myofascial pain is traditionally defined as
pain tht derrives from myofascial trigger points, which are small, highly sensitive areas about 3-
4mm in muscle that are characterised, by hypersensitive, palpable, taut bands of muscle thar are
painful to palpation and cause reffered pain. Myofascial trigger points can refer pain to the head
and face in the cervical region, thus contributing to cervicogenic headache. When identified
properly, cervical myofascial pain is a treatable component of headache management. This article
reviews current literature on the pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of cervical
myofascial pain and headache. |
