Pulmonary function test abnormalities in patients with intrathoracic sarcoidosis
Lung functional disturbances in sarcoidosis are often described as restrictive, lately
obstructive functional changes are increasingly found in patients with sarcoidosis, which are
associated with a poor prognosis. A prospective, observational study was performed on 54
patients with intrathoracic sarcoidosis, followed up at Institute of Pulmonology and Tuberculosis
"Cyril Draganiuc", Chisinau. Besides other usual investigations, patients underwent respiratory
function tests, which were analyzed in our study. The aim of the study was to describe the lung
function abnormalities and to determine the functional pattern frequently encountered in patients
with pulmonary sarcoidosis. Results: Among all 54 patients, 8 (14.81%) subjects were detected
with restriction, 13 (24.1%) with obstruction, and the remaining 33 (61.1%) - without
pathological functional changes. Decrease in DLCO and MEF25 disorders were most common.
In conclusion, the obstructive pattern in pulmonary sarcoidosis is frequently met, and these
patients should be carefully followed up. |
