Rezumat

On August, 20th the Soviet armies began the Jassy-Kishinev operation which was absolutely unexpected for German command and ended with a full defeat of Nazi troops. Neither Antonesku, nor his owners in Berlin didn't feel the moods of the Romanian people and of the ruling elite on the eve of the Soviet attack. They were confident that Romania will actively continue the fight on the side of Nazi Germany. From the point of view of national interests of Romania, proceeding from the created geostrategic position, its withdrawal from the war on Hitler's side was a realistic step, uniquely correct in those conditions that kept the Romanian statehood, restored its territorial by the return of Transylvania and which had provided its interests. Simultaneously this had saved Romania from the big destructions and casualties of civilians. This act has saved the life to many thousands of Soviet and Romanian soldiers and has opened almost without resistance a way to the Soviet Army to the Balkans and Hungary. Moreover, till the end of war the Romanian army was well fighting on the side of the anti-Hitler coalition. To resist the Red Army did not mean to stop the attack, but only its possible delay, although it was extremely improbable. To resist the Red Army did not mean to stop the attack, but only its possible delay, although it was extremely improbable. Even the capture of 16 divisions of Wehrmacht did not happen due to exit of Romanians from the war, but because the Germans simply hadn't time to depart faster before promptly coming of the Soviet armies completely motorized and surpassing them in all respects. Qualitative and quantitative superiority of the Red Army over the Romanian-German troops were such suppressing that, that, after the break of defence on the Dniester and in Jassy, nothing could stop the Soviet offensive to the moment when, the last having exhausted all resources, wouldn't be exhausted.
