Rezumat

The objective of this study was to investigate the content of chlorophyll (Chl) and carotenoids (Car) in leaves of maize plantlets, grown under two LED light spectra, red (RL) and white (WL). Three maize Zea mays L. hybrids, Porumbeni 180 (P.180), Bemo 203 (B.203) and Porumbeni 427 (P.427) were grown under two LED lighting treatments. Results showed that the different lighting treatments impact differently the contents of Chl and Car in leaves of different maize hybrids plantlets. The higher levels of Chl and Car in leaves of P.180 and B. 203 were established under WL. While in leaves of P. 427 plantlets the level of chlorophyll pigments was at lower levels under WL, compared to other two hybrids. However, RL, on the contrary, reduced photosynthetic pigments in leaves of P.180 and B. 203, and increased their content in leaves of hybrid P.427, compared to the values of the corresponding parameters under WL.
