Rezumat

The present research addresses the emotional experience of actors, using a cvasi-experimental design, in which subjects were selected on the basis of their preferred acting style, using a self-report questionnaire designed by the author, measuring two alternative styles of performing: detached vs. involved. Konijn, the most pre-eminent researcher in the field, argues that task-emotions are the most prevalent subjective phenomena experienced by the actors on stage, regardless of the dominant style of performance, either detached, or involved. With the present research design, we are trying to demonstrate the fact that Konijn’s model is not suitable for all actors, especially for those adhering to the stanislavskian system. The results showed that the performance influenced the degree to which the actors experienced role-related affects (those specific to the character), especially in the case of actors reporting a more engaged, stanislavskian style. These subjects showed more intensity of the role-related affects, even after finishing performing the part, and to a significantly greater degree than detached actors. The results suggest new ways of conceptualising the emotional experiences and work of the actors.
