The potential for resistance to heat or drought stress in tomato genotypes was evaluated through radicle growth ability. The effect of the abiotic stress factors on the radicle parameters in the descendants of plants infected with Tomato Aspermy Virus or Tobacco Mosaic Virus was estimated. Modulation effect has been found related to the reaction of genotypes in case of descendants from TAV or TMV infected plants. Thus, in optimal conditions, the descendants from the virus-infected plants usually expressed distinct manifestations for the radicle length, as well as for the intensity of growth at 72 and 120 hours of water imbibition, related to control. The same variants treated with heat or drought stresses indicated a specific response: usually, the offspring from infected plants showed lower values than control plants, according to the evaluated indices and only in specific combination genotype-virus-abiotic stress indicated higher values. A differentiated response of genotypes to heat or drought stress was established, placing them in different resistance groups – high, middle and low. |
