Victoria Poleva’s music is the medium through which the important artistic thoughts of the present are relayed. Her music delivers the opportunity for the listener to submerge into the depths of spiritual exploration of people coming from different backgrounds and religious confessions. The music which originated from the ancient times has adopted the modern sound and different ways of expression and yet it still conveys the values common to all humanity. Victoria’s music holds a valuable place in Ukrainian culture. Composer’s work represents an ascending step in the development of the music worldwide. Victoria Poleva’s personality shows the world of talent and intellect, it reaches to the listener through the music. Victoria’s music is compelling not only for the listeners and performers, but it also proved to be the subject for analytical and scientific research. Victoria Poleva’s music works include symphonic, choir, chamber-instrumental, and piano genres. The early period of Poleva’s work were associated with the aesthetics of the avant-garde and polystylistics (ballet „Gagaku”, „Transform” for symphony orchestra, „Anthem” for chamber orchestra, „Еpiphany” for chamber ensemble, cantatas „Horace's ode”, „Gentle light”). Since the late 1990s, her music stylistically tends to be identified with „sacred minimalism” (Arvo Pärt, Peteris Vasks, John Tavener, Henryk. Gorecki). A relevant period in Victoria Poleva’s creative work is linked with intensive studies and realization of texts from divine services in the music. Victoria Poleva’s works are regularly performed on the world's most prestigious stages. The composer describes herself as the „explorer of the world” and emphasizes the complexity of personal self-understanding paraphrasing the above-mentioned description into „the world in exploration of me”. She explains the ease of the creative process as follows: „The music itself creates me. I write unintentionally. I read, I suffer, I love, I write. I am the reflection of music”. Poleva’s music began to form under the influence of L. V. Beethoven, A. Scriabin, and especially R. Schumann, who was the main impetus for Victoria Poleva to begin composing. Focusing on the piano heritage of brilliant composers (namely Beethoven's Adagios, R. Schumann's melodic lyrics, A. Scriabin’s extravaganza and his thirst for exalted culminating points) will bring us closer to understanding Victoria Poleva’s style. Lyrics of W. H. Auden, John Don, and I. Brodsky are composer's literary preferences. Her piano music is inspired by passion for poetry. „Piano is poetry itself”, says V. Poleva. Poleva’s creative work is a blend and synergy of music, theater, literature, and pantomime. In the contemporary artistic space, the composer is at the forefront of musical performance, where theatrics play an integral part. „Music for piano” is the author's name of the piano genre which influences her work overall. Some chamber, choir, symphonic works, opera, and ballet („Freefall” ballet premiere is scheduled for May 2021 in the National Philharmonics of Ukraine with the participation of soloist Irina Starodub, piano) originate from piano miniatures. Victoria is a professional pianist and she treats the piano as the principal instrument, and regularly performs the piano part herself (the opera „Boundless Island”). „Music for piano” is an interesting, relevant, popular and successful piece which adorns a repertoire of any pianist. Performances of V. Poleva author's projects have become significant events worldwide. Cycle for piano „Numbers”, „Serene – sonata”, cycle „Musical moments” consisting of five pieces, „Ischia. The island as a variant of fate”, „Sonata quasi una fantasia”, „Fun mechanics”, cycle for children with lyrics by Nikolay Vorobyev, „Green grass bunnies” for piano and reciting, work named „Vitruvian Man”, „Null”, piece „Eter” („Ether”, completed 26 of July 2020), „Ditty never ends” for 4 hands, „Simurgh” are some piano pieces by Victoria Poleva. A small number of studies dedicated to piano works by the outstanding Ukrainian composer Victoria Poleva make analyzing her creative works in piano genre quite complicated, but the experience of numerous concert performances, strong affiliation in creative and working field, substantive discussion of the topic „Music for piano” with the author is a main reason for this message.
