The nickname is an individual denominative formula that distinguishes people. It allows some prompt and accurate identification, providing information that unequivocally represents the named person: it denotes a physical or character trait, or instantly evokes the context in which it was used. The Romanians have profusely practiced this mnemonic device in all times. The nickname did not make concessions, and it has been applied to all social categories, from the lowest hierarchical rank to the highest. |
