Rezumat

During a binational field survey in 2019, a DEM of an Iron Age fortification was created in Horodişte-Ţipova, Rezina district, Republic of Moldova. On the basis of this model, calculations are made on volumes of preserved ramparts and the amount of labor required for their construction. We focused on the main fortification of the settlement complex, which is divided in two areas: Horodişte “La Cot” and Horodişte “La Şanţ”, which are divided by two massive ramparts. These are still preserved today up to 2.5 m high. The evaluation of the gained data from the field campaign 2019 brought up a question: How can we measure and calculate the effort, which was needed to erect structures like we find them in Horodişte “La Şanţ”? Of course the calculations are theoretical, but they illustrate required capacities and give us an idea of the ancient achievements.
