Rezumat

COVID-19 is not only a global public health crisis, but has evolved into an international economic crisis. Famous reputable economists estimate the economic impact of health environment lockdown not only could surpass the previous global financial crisis of 2008-2009 but will be a larger negative shock than the number of deaths. The main purpose of this article is to assess the changes in the trading regimes of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries that they have made in order to counter the COVID-19 pandemic. Our research showed that EaP countries have very different trade regimes. They are not the same in the introduction of containment and mitigation measures to limit the spread of the virus and save lives or in their already available results of the fight against the epidemic. Despite these significant differences between EaP countries they have had a similar response by adopting unprecedented trade measures on COVID-19 pandemic. The initially and mostly introduced measures by the EaP countries were the restrictive trade ones most of them are the export prohibition or restriction of goods related to COVID-19. All liberalization measures taken by the EaP countries are measures to reduce tariffs. All EaP countries apply temporary measures on imports related to COVID-19. Both liberalization measures, as well as restrictive ones, are aimed to facilitate access to essential medical supplies or food. It can be explained by fearing of governments that their populations might lack the goods they need to counter the health crisis.
