Rezumat

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate a regression model developed for prediction of liveweight (LW) to determine the best possible prediction range. The data used for validation was obtained from Brown Swiss cattle grown under feedlot conditions and included the weights of animals ranging from 150 to 600 kg and were divided into 8 different weight classes at 50 kg intervals. The model used for evaluation was developed previously and based on regression of heart girth measurement with a determination coefficient of approximately R2=90%. The model generally overpredicted LW values in all weight ranges. Discrepancies were high and significant (P <0.05) at low weight ranges. However, beginning from the range 350-399 kg, discrepancies started to decrease as the weight of animals increased. The most accurate results were obtained from the range between 500-600 kg. According to the results, it can be concluded that the model does not provide very close predictions with reality when BWs of cattle were lower than 350 kg while the accuracy of the model improves as the BW increases.
