Museumification is a cultural phenomenon inseparable from the process of protecting cultural heritage. The term “museumification” designates the process of transforming immovable heritage into museum objects in order to elucidate its historical, cultural, scientific and artistic value, its protection and scientific and public promotion. The article considers the process of museumification in the Republic of Moldova in the conditions when the institutional structure and the legal framework for the protection of cultural heritage was created, highlighting the achievements and problems in the field. The author notes that museumification is a current trend of the patrimonialization process, highlights the typology of museumification and puts forward specific proposals for museumification of various categories of heritage, including industrial and architectural. Having made a detailed analysis of the process, the author concludes that the museumification of historical monuments in the Republic of Moldova will lead to the creation of a whole system of museums-monuments serving as repositories of national and local memory and identity, and that museumification is the most acceptable form of research and knowledge of cultural heritage, sustainable development of society.
