Primary immunodefi ciency disorders (PIDs) are caused by quantitative or qualitative defects of the immune system. Respiratory diseases are the initial and main manifestation and the common complication in most cases of PIDs. Aim: evaluation of the pulmonary complications in children with primary immunodefi ciency disorders. Methods: were evaluated medical records of 13 children with primary immunodefi ciencies. Th e patients were divided accordind to the type of PIDs (6 with antibody defi ciency and 7 with combined immunodefi ciencies). Data was analysed using descriptive statistics, with a 95% confi dence interval. Results: In the group of children with antibody defi ciency PID the mean of serrum immunoglobulin concentrations were: IgA 0.05±0.03 g/l; IgG 2.24±1.46 g/l; IgM 0.82±0.45 g/l; and about the basic immunophenotype profi le: B lymphocyte (CD19) 18.94±10.4%; T lymphocyte (CD3) 27.3±11.18%. In the case of patients with combined PID: IgA 0.72±0.27 g/l; IgG 8.07±1.47 g/l; IgM 1.73±0.79 g/l; CD19 14.85±2.31%; CD3 56.5±5.83%. Th e common manifestations in all patients were bronchitis and pneumonia which were already complicated at the time of diagnosis or later with: atelectasis 33.3%:95%CI,4.3-77.7; bronchiectasis 50%:95%CI,11.8-88.1; lung destruction 16.7%; empyema 33.3%:95%CI,4.3-77.7; fi broatelectasis 66.6%:95%CI,22.2-95.6 in children with antibody defi ciency. In children with combined immunodefi ciency have been recorded atelectasis 14.2%:95%CI,0.3-57.8; bronchiectasis 14.2%; lung destruction 14.2%; empyema 14.2%. ENT manifestations predominated in antibody defi ciency group: chronic otitis 33.3%, chronic sinustis 66.7%. Conclusion: Respiratory system complications are common in primary immunodefi ciencies, with the predominance of severe and irreversible pulmonary complications in children with antibody defi ciency. |
