There is a large amount of information in the literature about the dependence of the lipidic metabolism on the functional state of separated endocrine glands. However, currently there are only a few works devoted to the study of the role of pituitary hormones, in particular, MSH in the lipidic metabolism. The influence of MSH on the lipidic metabolism was studied on 30 adult male rabbits weighting 2,3 –3 kg. The first group of animals (control) was given the saline solution. The second group got MSH dissolved in saline solution. The content of cholesterol, lecithin, β lipoproteins in the blood under the influence of MSH was studied in dynamics with repeated administration of the hormone within 30 days. The results of the research show that weight gain was observed in the control group, in contradiction to the group of the experimental rabbits. The concentration of cholesterol, lecithin, β lipoproteins throughout the experiment was approximately the same. The second group of rabbits was given intramuscularly a daily MSH dose of 10 units per kg of weight. After 5 days of drug administration the level of cholesterol reaches 225 ± 23.96 mg%. The highest cholesterol level were observed on the 15-20th day of the experiment. The concentration of lecithin was 268 ± 20.67 mg% after 5 days of administration of MSH, after 15 days - 331 ± 19.20 mg%. However, the content of lecithin in the blood decreases after the 20th day of the experiment and at the end of the experiment it is 214 ± 15.29 mg%. The initial content of β-lipoproteins in the serum of experimental animals was 223 ± 18.95 mg%, on the 5th day of the experiment it was up to 332 ± 23.24 mg%, on the 10th day of the experiment of MSH administration - 515 ± 45.45 mg%, and some decrease was already observed on the 20th day; by the 30th day of the experiment the content of β-lipoproteins was 385 ± 37.23 mg%. Obviously, the changes in cholesterol and lecithin levels were reflected in their ratios. The cholesterol / lecithin ratio plays a major role in the development of atherosclerosis. Conclusion: Intramuscular administration of MSH helps to increase the content of β-lipoproteins, cholesterol and lecithin in blood. In later periods, the cholesterol / lecithin ratio is violated. Lecithin contributes to the retention of cholesterol in the emulsoid state and prevents its deposition in the vascular walls. Changes in the content of lecithin within the introduction of MSH is a compensatory reaction as the body wants to keep the excess of cholesterol in the dissolved state in the blood and prevent its deposition in various organs and tissues.
