Rezumat

In accordance with the Agreement between Partners in the course of MIS ETC 1676 Project (Romania, Ukraine, Moldova) «Cross-border interdisciplinary cooperation for the prevention of natural disasters and mitigation of environmental pollution in Lower Danube Euroregion» complex studies of the Lower Prut and the Lower Danube areas’ environmental state were envisaged. Based on the plan of research activities made by the Partners, the sites of environmental monitoring were chosen. All the logistical matters connected with missions, accommodation of surveys participants and transportation of equipment for sampling and samples preservation were solved. Respective boats rent agreements were made in order to carry out monitoring. The first complex survey, where all the Project Partners participated, was performed in the territory of Republic Moldova in the Lower Prut area near the Cahul in March 2014. The objects of studies were waters and sediments from the Prut River and soil from the river flood-plain. Water was sampled from two points: the centre of the river and the zone of stagnation. The samples were analysed for priority pollutants (PPSs) content - TPHs, TSS, Corg, Trace Me, OCPs, total and individual PCBs and individual PAHs. Sediment samples were analysed for 11 toxic metals content (As, Cd, Co, Cu, Mn, Hg, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cr, Fe and Al). Soil was sampled from two sites 10 х 10 m each according to the methodology elaborated by the Institute of Geology and Seismology, Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Like in the water samples, in the integrated samples of soil, PPSs were determined. Three surveys were performed in the Lower Danube area – in June, July and October, 2014. The first and the third surveys took place in the Romanian Danube Delta and all the Project Partners participated. Sampling stations in the Danube and its delta in June were the following: Isaccea, Izmail, Chilia Veche, Vilcovo and Babina channel, and one station on the Prut River in the area of Oancea. In October monitoring was performed on the stations Galati, Reny, Isaccea, Izmail, Chilia Veche and Vilcovo. Complex ecological survey in Ukrainian Danube Delta was organized by the Partner 3 in July. Monitoring stations were located near the towns Reny, Izmail, Chilia, Vilkovo and in the Danube aims: Ochakovskiy, Potapovskiy, Starostambulskiy, Vostochniy and Bistriy. Comprehensive hydrochemical and hydrobiological studies were carried out in all the Lower Danube stations, water and bottom sediments were jointly sampled and analysed to determine the levels of PPSs content. Molluscs were sampled on two monitoring stations located near the towns Vilcovo (June) and Reni (October). Their soft tissues were analysed for levels of toxic metals and organochlorine compounds accumulation. Quality of potable water sources was studied in the communities Vladesti and Oancea. In August soil from the areas of Slobozia-Oancea and Oancea was sampled and analysed for PPSs content. The planned programme of joint environmental monitoring was carried out in full. Scientific analysis of the monitoring results was presented in respective reports and publications by the Project Partners.
