This paper is dedicated to the analysis of the recent trends in the Moldova’s social structure formation. The research has shown that in Moldova there is no clear relationship between education, occupation, income, property, lifestyle etc., which facilitates the identification of social classes. Socio-economic and political transformations have led to the formation of new social groups/strata, mew professional structures and changed the structure of the society as a whole. New groups/strata appear not based on the classical principals of stratification, but have specific national features related to privatization process, the formation of economy and market relations. The article presents an overview of sociological study results „VoxPopuli 2012” held in January 2011 by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers, which set the goal of detection the social factors that contributed to social stratification in the Republic of Moldova.
