Rezumat

The main task when working with post-traumatic disorder is to create an opportunity for experiencing emotions in a safe environment and integrating the traumatic experience into a broader context of associations, which should eventually lead to personal growth. In order for the emotions that have been suppressed to take their place in the experience, they must be lived. This integration process involves emotional, sensory and cognitive aspects of the experience. PTSD plays an important role in preventing mental degradation in severe trauma and contributes to the preservation of mental integrity, albeit reduced, and by and large it can be considered as a temporary pause that provides an opportunity to search for resources. The task of the therapist and, of course, the patient himself is to reduce this time as much as possible – this should be enough for comfortable processing of experience. For this purposes we are developing a therapy program with the participation of horses, which is designed to help patients successfully manage the symptoms of PTSD until the full reintegration of the traumatic experience.
