The article deals with the process of developing communicative skills in modern higher education and the difficulties along the way associated with the digitalization of society. The purpose of communication in the educational process is not only the transfer and exchange of information, imparting or conveying knowledge and understanding but on the part of students mastering the art of free expression of thoughts and formulating ideas. Digitalization of the educational process opens up new grandiose prospects, offers new platforms and teaching methods. It also enriches the teacher’s arsenal with limitless digital resources. MGIMO studies make full use of the opportunities provided by new digital resources, but at the same time pay great attention to the development of students’ communication skills and combine traditional methods of education with new trends. However, modern information society exerts a powerful formative influence on the younger generation, and some of the manifestations of this influence have a negative character. Thus, it is necessary to take into account these peculiarities of the worldview and behavior of the younger generation so that in the process of their professional growth they receive the necessary competencies and successfully cope with the challenges of the modern world.
