The purpose of this paper is to synthesize and present based on specialized literature, newspapers of the time and primary sources, such as (un)published documents kept in archival institutions from the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Armenia and Romania (The National Archive of the Republic of Moldova, the Archive of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova; The National Archive of the Republic of Armenia; The National Archives of Romania (Bucharest branch), the Archive of the Armenian Archdiocese of Romania and the Archive of the National Council for the Study of Security Archives (CNSAS) from Romania), but also based on oral testimonies on the topic of Armenian refugees across the Prut River in the context of "restitution" and (re)annexation of Bessarabia to the USSR. The scientific approach highlights the manifestly decrease of the Armenian element in the area between the Prut and the Dniester Rivers during the Second World War, as well as the interruption of the direct link between the Armenians who populated this territory until 1940/1944 and after. |
