Currently, Moldova is facing demographic decline. Among the underlying causes are emigration, especially of young people and people of reproductive age, low fertility, low life expectancy and an ageing population. The main vector in the prospective dynamics of the population shows the process of demographic aging. The population aging coefficient (number of persons aged 60 years and over per 100 inhabitants) in the Republic Of Moldova is higher than 20 in 2019. With reference to the demographic consequences of migration, both temporary and definitive, we mention that they are significant. The tendency to stay permanently in destination countries is well known and generates considerable losses among the population. This loss has the consequence of slowing the pace of economic growth or even the decline in economic activity. The majority of those who emigrate are young people, and their percentage is constantly increasing, which affects the age groups with high fertility rates, thus reducing the potential of newborns in the Republic Of Moldova. This is all the more worrying as emigration becomes permanent. |
