Currently among the factors that impact on disease progression and efficacy of antiviral treatment in chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) is discussed insulin resistance. It has been investigated patients with HCV genotype 1b with normal body weight and without hepatic steatosis in order to study this issue. Changes in glucose and insulin levels and HOMA index in patients with HCV without steatosis and metabolic syndrome, suggest existence of insulin resistance a phenomenon also expressed during viral infection and reactivation can serve unfavorable prognostic criteria of the disease requiring therapeutic intervention. |
